Fall Equinox and Snow!

Today is the fall equinox and it is snowing. (No we are not ready for winter yet.) The day and night are equal today everywhere on earth even here in the subarctic. After today we will get darker and darker until the winter solstice on Dec. 22nd when the sun will start to come back to us. Whew that seems like a long dark time away.

I have not been posting much lately because I have gone back to grad school. This is what my life looks like right now. It is an interesting program on rural community and economic development. The program is all on line, which is the only way I am able to do it.

I am still homeschooling Isa and she has been great self directing her own learning and giving me time to do mine. I have told her that we are both homeschooling now! We just finished learning about Africa, Islam, and mosaics. Here she is doing a project making mosaics. After you make your mosaic we then iron it and the little beads melt. Don't look to close, you may be getting one for Christmas!

Running Cross Country

I have been helping out the elementary cross country team here in Unalakleet. Check out this blog to see some of the pictures of the athletes and myself practicing. I am amazed at the dedication of these young runners. The blog is posted by the third grade teacher and coach here in Unalakleet, Nancy Persons. Thanks Nancy.

Art Time

Just so you don't think that we are science nerds in this house here are some pictures of Isa with an art activity that she came up with. We knew there was a tie-dye hippy girl under all those princess clothes! All I did was get the food coloring down. She came up with the rest. I think we will string all of the colored paper together and make our own prayer flag.

Science Homeschool Style!

Oh do we love science in this house. Both Isa and I love science more then any other subject and try as hard as we can to incorporate it into anything we do. Sometimes though, you just have to get a science kit and make a mess. The bigger the better and boy did we make a mess.

SLIME day at our house!!

Isa loved it. This is Isa with her Flip/Flop goop made of cornstarch and water.

After we made the Flip/Flop goop Isa started to get creative. What happens if I stand up and drop it?

Big long strings fall from your fingers, wiggling like worms.

Hey that gave her another idea. Could we paint with it? Yep we can paint with it......

Then came the Sewer Slime

And finally Wiggly Wonder.

Is it any wonder why I love to homeschool. Who gets to spend their day playing with goop?

great day on the river!

This is what they came to Alaska for, not visiting us but catching that huge salmon on a fly rod.

Here is Richard with his.

And then Jeremy with His.

Then of course a group shot.

Fighting those salmon is harder then you think. Jeremy needed a nap!
